Kristina Chesterman was a 21 year old nursing student at California State University, Chico. She was riding her bike home from the library on the night of September 22, 2013 when she was hit by a drunk driver who immediately fled the scene. On September 24th, after being on life support for over 36 hours, she was declared brain dead. Because she had signed up to be an organ donor at the age of 16, her organs were used to save the lives of five people. Two young babies each received a portion of her liver, a retired nurse was given her heart, a family friend received one kidney, and another gentleman was given her pancreas and her other kidney.
As friends and nursing classmates of Kristina’s, we are putting on this campaign to honor her selflessness and to inspire others.
Kristina was a very giving individual and she knew that in the event of her untimely death, she wouldn’t need her organs anymore. Her decision to be an organ donor gave each of the recipients a second chance at life.
