Why is checking “Yes” to your decision to donate so important? Because over 100,000 Americans are waiting for lifesaving organs. Over 20% of those individuals are here in California.
Did you know that one donor can save up to 8 lives as an organ donor, and heal over 75 additional individuals?
When you’re looking to add media to your lesson plans we’ve got a video for you to incorporate into your discussion on organ and tissue donation, “Check Yes to Donation”.
Why Educating Teens On Organ and Tissue Donation is So Important?
Each year, thousands of teenagers head to California’s DMVs and apply for their permits and their driver’s license. This is typically the first time these youth are asked whether they wish to become organ and tissue donors.
We hope to work with educators across the state to make sure these teens have information to make the best decision for them when they are asked to become donors at the DMV.
As youth around California decide to register as donors it is important to note when a potential donor is under the age of 18 the final decision is left to the family. With that, it is a way to ensure families are aware of their teen’s interest in being a donor.
