What is Whole Body Donation?

Whole body donation is not organ and tissue donation.  It is a form of non-transplant anatomical donation made with a  medical or scientific program. Typically, with whole body donation authorization is completed prior to death on behalf of the individual or by next of  kin on behalf of the individual.

Accredited vs Unaccredited Whole Body Programs

Accredited whole body programs have completed the necessary certifications and maintain specific standards. Both of which are required of  whole body programs. Unaccredited whole body programs do not have the certification or regulated standards to maintain the program. We at Donate Life California recommend using accredited programs as the higher standards and certifications ensure donated gifts are used ethically.

How Do I Sign Up For a Whole Body Program?

Each whole body program has their own specific criteria which is used to decide whether someone can donate their body or not. For example, some of these programs do not allow bodies which have donated organs or tissue into their programs.
